A new study published in the Journal of Clinical Research and Ophthalmology had shown that eating 12 eggs per week can improve the vision among people with early age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
AMD is one of the leading cause of blindness which is caused by damaging macula. The macula is the central area in the retina which is important for sharp, central vision. The macula can be protected from harmful light by two antioxidants named lutein and zeaxanthin. These two antioxidants are present in the green vegetables and also in eggs.
The pigment which makes eggs yellow are the same that protect your eyes from harmful sun rays. The antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin are available much higher in eggs when compared with vegetables. The regular consumption of eggs can increase both serum and macular levels of lutein and zeaxanthin.
Studies have revealed that the regular intake of eggs along with green vegetables can reduce the risk of cataract by nearly 18%. So, regular consumption of eggs in the daily diet of the children can improve the eyesight and prevents early vision-related problems in children.
